My Review (3 stars out of 5)
When the animals wake up one day to fine their city is strangely wet, they carry on going about their lives as usual. However, as the water begins to rise, they realise they must work together to solve the problem.
This is a hardback book written and illustrated by Mariajo Ilustrajo. Initially, I expected this to be a story about climate change, and while it does hint at this with the rising water, the solution turns out to be a bit silly and is actually about everyone pulling together (literally) to get rid of the flood. Aimed at a reading age of 3-6 years, the text is an odd mix of words and phrases that children will be familiar with and a fair chunk of adult language. Used by parents to read with their children, it could work quite well, but certainly not a book for kids to read on their own. (Also, the reading age of a 3-year-old is very different to that of a 6-year-old).
Although the illustrations are lovely, the story could have been so much better, especially with language aimed at a specific age group rather than one that suggests the author hasn’t read any books for 3-year-old and 6-year-old kids.
